Contribution Receipts - Year-End or Single
End-of-Year printing of all donation receipts
Verify Before Printing
When your Jewel “Next Step” says “Print Receipts,” and Jewel asks if you are ready, click “No” and check three things.
- Go to Maintenance / Properties / Reports tab. Use the drop-down arrow to choose “Calendar Year Reports. Make sure that the “Report Type” is set to “Receipt Summary – Last Calendar Year.” If it is not, use the “Add/Delete” buttons. Delete what is there and Add “Receipt Summary – Last Calendar Year.” Click the green “OK √” in the top right to save and leave.
- Go to Reports and Graphs / Contribution. Set the Date Range for the year you are printing and set it to sort “By Donor” which shows you a one-line-per-donor list. Scanning down through this list before you print receipts gives you a chance to catch any glaring errors. You might see a child’s name with their parent’s tithe posted to it. Or an elderly person on a fixed income or a deceased member with a huge donation that was mis-posted. You know your members and their giving habits. Scroll down through and see if anything odd jumps out at you. Fixing errors before you print is helpful and will save time in the long run. While you are at it, fix any spelling or formatting errors you find.
- Make sure your printer has enough paper and ink to finish the print job. Don’t start printing with your “ink low” light flashing. Load the paper tray. Now you are ready to print.
To Print Receipts
If your NextStep button says "Print Receipts", click it, then click Yes.
Otherwise:
- Go to Reports & Graphs / Receipts (near the center of the report list).
- Click OK to confirm that you want to print receipts for All Donors.
- Verify that the dates in the top left corner are correct, and that Summary is selected.
- Click Print.
Once the receipts are printed, don’t forget to sign them before you hand them out. If you have a lot of receipts to sign, a signature can be loaded into Jewel under the “Church Info” tab of the Properties page. Using #9 double window envelopes, fold and insert so the name and address shows. You can start handing out receipts at church as soon as they are printed and you can mail the ones that are left. Receipts are required to be distributed or in the mail before January 31, but earlier is better.
Reprinting Individual Donation Receipts

- Verify the date range
- Verify “Summary”
- Click “Print“
- Don’t forget to sign it, if needed.

Troubleshooting Receipt Printing
Jewel won't let me change the dates! It's stuck on last year.
First, click OK on the smaller window in the middle of the screen (the one with the big pink flower), where you choose whose receipts you want to print. Once that window is gone, you will be able to set the date and other options.
My receipts are printing on both sides of the paper.
Turn on the Print Setup option in Maintenance / Properties / General tab. Then when you print, the print setup window will allow you to select your printer settings, including turning off two-sided printing.
My printer won't print the receipts, but is working for other things.
Because the receipt file is often large, it sometimes gives trouble when other files don't. Reduce the Pages per Print Job in Maintenance / Properties / Reports tab, and see if that helps.
Specific receipt(s) won't print.
Go to Maintenance / Edit Names. In the left-hand column, select the donor whose receipt won't print. Check the Edit box in the center column, then check the "Get Receipt" box. Click OK to save. Follow the directions above to reprint the individual receipt needed.
A local fund is showing up on receipts as non-deductible, but it's supposed to be deductible.
Go to Maintenance / Edit Accounts. In the left-hand column, select the affected account. Check the Edit box in the center column, then check the "Tax Deductible" box. Click OK to save. Follow the instructions above to reprint the affected receipts.
A donor reports that one of their contributions is missing. Where is it?
- Check if the donation was recorded under another donor's name. Usually it's someone whose name is nearby in your Name List. If you find it, your technical support can easily correct the donation for you.
- Go to Maintenance / Edit Names and look for a second version of the donor's name. There may be a slight spelling or punctuation variation, it may have the first name listed first, it may have just an initial instead of the full name (first or last). If you find a second version of the exact same donor's name, use Combine Names to merge the two names so that all of their donations appear on a single receipt.
