Jewel
The base of the system is the Jewel software program the local church Treasurer
uses. Jewel receipts the contributions, writes check to pay the bills, maintains
the database for all local funds and budgets, provides donor receipts and makes remittances
to the Conference. At month end as part of the closing this data is reported to
the Conference by being sent over the internet to the Data Server. This data
becomes the basis for which all other services are needed.
Data Server
We at Jewel provide and maintain a Data Server to receive the data from the
Jewel software. This Data Server becomes a hub for many services. The Data
Server 1) stores the local database as a backup in case of loss, 2) the database
is the local churches monthly report to the Conference, 3) serves as a hub
between the local treasurer and tech support for transferring the data between
them (see Jewel Auditor), 4) maintains all the remittance reports of the
churches for Conference use (see Jewel Reporter).
Jewel Auditor
Jewel Auditor is a software program to assist in
the auditing and tech support processes. Auditor incorporates a full copy of
Jewel and you can go back and forth between them.
Auditing: Auditor: 1) can retrieve a churches database from the Data Server for auditing, 2) helps in looking for specific amounts to facilitate finding errors, 3) allows making corrections and dating them so the reports match the corrected bank balance for the audited period, 4) can find the date when items were cleared on the bank reconciliation, 5) can make corrections in the bank reconciliation to get it back in balance.
Tech Support: Jewel Auditor can be used for such things as: 1) retrieve a churches database from the Data Server, 2) view the actual data in Jewel or Auditor to see what the church treasurer did or is describing, 3) corrections or adjustments can be made to the database, 4) reset the NextStep button for when treasurers make bad choices, 5) delete the Remittance and Budget Allocations to allow Jewel to re-close a month, 6) change dates on checks and deposits to put them in the appropriate month.
Jewel Reporter
The Jewel Reporter program is for use by the Conference office staff who deposit
the Remittance checks etc. Reporter retrieves the monthly report remittance information
for each church from the Data Server and makes it available to the Conference.
Reporter will: 1) track the date the reports were received, 2) track the date the
checks were processed [received and deposited], 3) provide data showing
outstanding amounts, amounts received, etc., 4) provide summary and comparative
data and charts showing information like Tithe received and compared to previous
months or years, 5) provide the data to TRS for insertion into the Conference
software for reporting to the Union.
